Alea Triscan, also known by her code name Aureate,[2] was one of the six Lances of Dicathen, representing the Kingdom of Elenoir. Alea was the first of the Lances to encounter the Vritra, before ultimately losing her life to one. Following her death, she was replaced by Arthur Leywin.
Appearance[]
Alea is an elf, with shoulder length white hair and light blue eyes. She is above average height for a woman, standing just a head taller than Claire Bladeheart. As a Lance of Dicathen, Alea wears the white uniform with a red sash, and a gold shoulder guard on her left, as well as his ring bestowed upon her by the Council. When on active duty, Alea wears plated armor over her limbs and torso.
Personality[]
Alea is polite, friendly, and encouraging. She acts as the most social person amongst the Lances, with an odd sense of humor. When the situation demands it, Alea can be very serious and perceptive, analyzing her surroundings and assessing her situation. Alea possesses a slight inferiority complex towards the rest of her comrades, as she fully admits that she is the weakest among the Lances. Alea values her soldiers and was willing to put her life on the line to protect them, and was traumatized when she was forced to listen to them scream in agony as they were butchered by Uto.
Background[]
Little is known about Alea’s past. She lost her parents when she was young and was left to raise her younger brother by herself. Sometime later, Alea’s brother died, leaving Alea with no family.
Synopsis[]
Season 3[]
Alea was present for the Announcement in Etistin City where she, along with the other 5 representatives of the kingdoms were bestowed ring artifacts that gave them the ability to achieve the white stage of their mana core. Together they were dubbed the 6 Lances, who would become Dicathen’s protectors. Alea was bestowed her ring by Dawsid Greysunders.
Season 4[]
Alea and Bairon Wykes arrived at Xyrus Academy to report their findings in the dungeons to Cynthia Goodsky. However they were suddenly interrupted by the arrival of two students, Arthur Leywin and Claire Bladeheart. With their meeting concluded, Alea and Bairon bid farewell to Cynthia as they passed the two disciplinarians. Alea later waited in the hall of the boys dormitory while Bairon conversed with his younger brother Lucas Wykes. Alea sensed another person observing the Wykes brothers from afar, radiating a strong bloodlust towards them. Alea confronted the perpatrator, revealed to be the same boy Arthur, that she saw moments ago. Before Arthur could even pull out his sword, Alea had already conjured a sword made from her plant magic.
Arthur at first denied having any ill will towards Bairon, but Alea was not gullible to fall for such a lie, as unlike Bairon, she excels at intuition and perception. Alea does point out however that Bairon is still frighteningly strong, and was even stronger than herself, a fact that Alea cannot help but lament over as Arthur tried to comfort her by patting her back. Just as Bairon was finishing talking to Lucas, Alea bid goodbye to Arthur, and hoped to see him again soon. Arthur in return thanked Alea for the time as he bid her goodnight, to which Alea remarked that he reminded her of her brother, before taking off.
Some time later, Alea and Bairon met with their fellow Lance Varay Aurae, where they discussed their discovery of recent activity in the Beast Glades from mages not from Dicathen. Alea was especially surprised by this as she was under the assumption that the discovery of the new continent was relatively recent. Bairon however, points out that their situation and the people spying on them may not be similar. Moving on, Varay informs Alea that there had been multiple sightings of Titanic Bloodworms appearing randomly throughout the dungeons, deviating from their usual patterns. Varay deduces that the abnormal behavior of the mana beasts and the intruders from Alacrya are connected somehow. Alea is reassigned to investigate the locations of abnormal behavior due to her sensory magic. Varay offers to put the mission on hold for Alea until Mica returns from her assignment, but Alea refuses, not wanting to waste any time or chance of adventurers or students getting hurt.
Alea entered the A-Class Dungeon named Hell's Jaw, where Alea used her plant magic to track the abnormal movements of the Titanic Bloodworms. While excavating, Alea reached the final floor where the master of the dungeon, an AA-Class mana beast called Hades Serpent, made its den. The Hades Serpent has a different appearance than the one that is recorded, it had a black horn jutting out of its forehead and its scales are sleek black. Believing it to be the anomaly responsible for the abnormal behavior of the bloodworms, Alea reported her discovery to Varay who sent 50 battlemages to Alea’s location to deal with the mysterious mana beast.
Alea lost five of her men in the fight, but was anble to restrain the mana beast with her vines before her troops finished it off. To their surprise however, the Hades Serpent did not possesses a beast core. One of Alea's men used a spell and found that there was a hidden tunnel underneath a thin layer of earth. After crossing the tunnel, they arrived at the cavern of another dungeon called the Widow’s Crypt, where a Vritra was hiding.
Alea was given a choice to either dismember all of her troops, one by one, in front of him, and the Vritra will let her walk out unharmed or try and fight him. Alea chose the latter and the fight broke out. The Vritra didn't even break a sweat from fighting his enemy as he uses his magic, Black Metal, to instantaneously conjure metal spikes, blades, and any sort of weapons from the ground and himself. The fight was over too quickly, half of Alea's men were dead in the first wave of attacks the Vritra unleashed with a simple flick of his wrist. Alea herself tried desperately fought off the enemy with her plant magic, and was even able to chip at the Vritra’s horn.
Enraged that a lesser being was able to scratch him, the Vritra immediately impaled Alea, shattering her core. He then removed her right arm and both of her legs, and cruelly sealed the wounds by burning them. As further punishment, the savage Vritra gouged her eyes out so that she could here the dying screams of her soldiers. The ones that were still alive attacked him, he didn't even bother to dodge as plates of black metal instantaneously materialized and blocked whatever attack that managed to get near him.
Not long after, Alea’s body was discovered by Arthur Leywin, who found himself at the bottom of the dungeon. With the little strength and mana she had, Alea showed Arthur what happened to her by transferring her memories to him. Alea apologized for showing Arthur something so traumatizing, but Arthur promised to pass on the information, thanking her for her efforts. Alea could only cry at hearing this, expressing how she did not want to die and her regrets over never having a family nor a lover to depend on. Arthur embraced Alea before she died in his arms, thinking about her brother.
Relationships[]
Brother: Alea had a younger brother whom she loved more than anything. Alea’s brother died some time before she became a Lance, which left her heartbroken and grief stricken. Alea still thinks about her brother, even comparing Arthur to him, stating he would be about Arthur’s age if he was still alive. In her final moments, Alea’s final thoughts were of her brother.
Bairon Wykes: Bairon is a fellow Lance of Dicathen who works alongside Alea. They have a mutual respect for each other, and maintain a stable co-worker relationship. Alea admits she is envious of how powerful Bairon is compared to her and is even frightened of the young Lance at times.
Baray Aurae: Varay is the leader of the Lances. Varay and Alea have a mutual respect for each other. Varay entrusts Alea with the responsibility of exploring and excavating the Beast Glades while Alea has full trust in Varay, willing to carry out any of her orders. Varay was shown to care about Alea’s wellbeing, and was willing to hold off on sending Alea into the dungeon’s by herself until she was joined by another Lance.
Arthur Leywin: Arthur is a boy who attends Xyrus Academy. Alea at first was surprised to see Arthur emitting a strong bloodlust towards Bairon and even gave him a fair warning that he was no match for Bairon. Alea was shown to be comfortable around Arthur, due to reminding her of her little brother. Upon reuniting in the dungeon, Alea passes on information about her death to him, that will help him later against the Vritra. Arthur was deeply traumatized by her death, despite their brief encounter.
Abilities & Skills[]
As a white core mage, and a Lance of Dicathen, Alea was one of the strongest mages in Dicathen. From what little was shown of Alea’s power, Alea was said to be a very powerful individual. Her keen sense of perception was much greater than her comrades as she was able to sense surrounding dangers much easier than Bairon. Alea answers directly to the Council of Dicathen, more specifically the monarch’s of Elenoir. She has control over entire battalions of mages and has the full authority and capability to enter and lead dungeon excavations.
Augmenter: Alea is an Augmenter mage, therefore someone who can use magic within their bodies to enhance their attacks, but at the same time also able to shoot out magic after reaching a certain level. While Alea admits she is the weakest of the Lances, she is not to be underestimated. Alea’s mana manipulation is only outmatched by five other people in Dicathen, and is able to sense and track the surrounding environment much better than her comrades.
Plant Deviant: As an elf, Alea is a deviant in plant, a rare form of deviant magic that can only be wielded by exceptionally powerful elves. Though it is unknown what her natural affinity was, Alea is shown to be a master at nature manipulation. Alea can shape her plants into other shapes or forms for different purposes such as combat or tracking. Her vines are strong enough to hold down a mutated AA-Class mana beast with little effort.
- Rose Sword (unnamed): Alea manifests a sword made from plants from her body. When she does, her body sprouts large roses on her arm and back. Alea is fast enough to conjure her sword that even skilled swordsmen are unable to react in time due to requiring to remove their own weapons from their dimension ring. [1]
- Plant Sensory (unnamed): Alea is able to use her plant magic to track and sense her surrounding environment. She is capable of covering large areas such as the connected tunnels in the dungeons.
Flight: As a white core mage, It can be assumed that Alea has the ability to fly.
Quotes[]
- (To Arthur) "I always thought that I didn't need anyone... as long as I was strong enough. I never had a family or lover... to depend on... but you know? I-I really don't want to die alone right now..."[3]
- (To Arthur) [Last Words] "I'm scared, I don't want to die..."
Notes & Trivia[]
- Her deviation being of plant magic is only shown in the comic.
- Alea's role in the Webcomic is much bigger than in the novel. Not only does she meet Arthur much earlier and impart on him some advice and insight, but the circumstances that led to her fateful mission to Widow's Crypt are shown. This makes her death have much more impact than in the novel.
