Clive Graves is a noble of House Graves and a second year scholar mage student of Xyrus Academy, as well as the Vice President of the Student Council.
Appearance[]
Clive is tall with a stern-looking face and black hair[2] that has long, parted bangs. He has sharp eyes that makes him look as though he is looking down on others, making him appear arrogant.[3] As a scholar mage student, as well as a member of the student council, Jarrod wears the standard scholar mage uniform with a white half-cloak over his upper torso.
Personality[]
As a person from nobility, Clive is not just stern, but also strict and arrogant around others, especially those of lower status. He views Arthur lowly for his common birth. Clive admires and shows concern for Tessia and is oblivious of Arthur's past with her. He is hostile towards Arthur, believing Arthur is the reason for upsetting Tessia. Clive is also quick to anger as he will usually act aggressively whenever he or someone he cares for is slighted.
Abilities & Skills[]
As the son of a prominent Graves family,[4] Clive is considered a force to be reconned with. Despite being a scholar mage, his capabilities as a mage were well recognized by the student body as students warned each other not to get on his bad side. As Vice-President of the student council, Clive is only second in authority to the President, and is in charge of enforcing the rules of the school whenever Tessia is absent, and give out punishments to rule breakers that he sees fit. While he claims to have no weaknesses,[1] Clive suffers from a superiority complex due to his privileged upbringing and constantly looks down on and underestimates his opponents.
Augmenter: Clive is an Augmenter mage, therefore someone who can use magic within their bodies to enhance their attacks but is also able to shoot out magic after reaching a certain level. Clive is a rare[5] long-range augmenter who specializes in archery. Clive is shown to be strong enough to fight evenly with the leader of the Disciplinary Committee, Claire Bladeheart, a dual-elemental mage trained by the renowned Kaspian Bladeheart.
Wind Elemental: Clive has a single specialization in the attribute of Wind. As Clive's style of fighting revolves around archery, Clive imbues his arrow with a gust of wind to increase it's speed as well as control it's trajectory.
Bow and Arrow: Clive's weapon of choice is a short, metal bow that can shoot a long metal needle. As Clive is capable of changing the trajectory of the needle, he only appears to carry one.
Quotes[]
- (To Arthur) "Hold it, first year. Were you raised in a cave? Are these the manners your mother taught you growing up? Do you even know who she is?"[6]
- (To Tessia) "I knew he would only cause trouble! His poor upbringing is definitely the cause. I can't imagine why Director Goodsky even allowed that peasant in this prestigious academy, and as a disciplinary committee member, no less!"[7]
Notes & Trivia[]
- In the webcomic, Clive did not give a speech during the school's orientation.[8] In the novel, Clive gives a speech along with Tessia.[4]
- In the webcomic, his confrontation with Arthur is slightly different. While in the novel Arthur uses his aura to intimidate Clive to let go of him when Clive grabs Arthur, the webcomic shows Arthur using his wind magic to toss Clive into the air.
