Eleanor "Ellie" Leywin is the daughter of Alice Leywin and Reynolds Leywin and Arthur Leywin's younger sister. Eleanor spent most of her childhood living with the Helstea Family, growing up alongside Lilia Helstea. Arthur was not present during her early years after she was born due to him training with Virion Eralith in Elenoir. However, her parents often told her stories that are inspired by Arthur's actions before he went to the Kingdom of Elenoir.

Appearance[]

Eleanor has her father's grayish brown hair and her mother's brown eyes. As a toddler, she would tie her hair into pigtails with ribbons and usually wore overalls or dresses. As she grew older, Eleanor’s hair also grew longer, which she often tied into a ponytail. In the novel, she is said to have lost some of her child-like traces and has turned into a more feminine and adult-like teenage girl.

Personality[]

As a toddler, Eleanor is playful, rambunctious, and innocent. She is shown spending most of her time either playing with her family or with Lilia. Due to her innocence, Ellie would often repeat other peoples words or jump into conversations without fully knowing her actions or words, such as repeating her father cursing. As an adolescent, Ellie is seemingly more mature than as a toddler, though she is still as rambunctious, if not more so than as a toddler and has become more sarcastic and tougher as time passes. Despite attending an all girls etiquette school, Eleanor's attitude is much closer to a tomboy or as Arthur put it, "a foul mouthed thug". Above all, Eleanor loves her family dearly and will usually get emotional, whenever they are upset or in danger. For example, when her mother cried upon reuniting with her brother, Ellie began to cry as well and hugged her mother in order to comfort her or when her brother was critically injured during a class, Ellie panicked over the fact that her brother was not waking up, scared for his safety.

Background[]

Eleanor Leywin was born some time after her parents moved to Xyrus City and began living with the Helstea family until the war started. Eleanor would grow up in a loving family, often playing with Lilia Helstea and imitating her parents mannerisms, mainly whenever her father would accidentally swear in front of her. Alice and Reynolds would also tell Eleanor stories about her older brother Arthur Leywin, who was separated from them before she was born, so that Eleanor would know about her brother.

She finally met Arthur and his bond Sylvie when she was 3 1/2 years old and was fortunate enough to spend some time with her older brother. Arthur also taught his sister how to gather mana to form a mana core prematurely (as Arthur had), before he departed with Jasmine to become an adventurer. She saw her brother from time to time every few months as he was busy adventuring.

Quotes[]

  • (to Arthur Leywin) "I never told you this, but there was a time when I hated you. I felt like it was because of you that my life was like this now. I blamed you for Mom and Dad feeling like they needed to help out in the war too, and I blamed you for my not being able to have a regular life in school with classrooms and a bunch of friends.” My sister was looking away from me as she turned her body toward Boo, but I could see the hand petting her bond trembling while her shoulders quivered. “Ellie...” ”But the funny thing is, I don’t blame you anymore. How can I blame you when your life was worse than mine? Most of the memories I have of you were you coming in and out of the house full of injuries, with unbelievable stories of how you faced this monster or that monster. It was really fun and amazing to hear back then—I thought you were so cool and strong—but I feel like I know better now. The things you had to give up to get where you are today...” My sister hurriedly wiped her eyes with her sleeves and turned back to me with red eyes and a wide, forced grin.[1]
  • (To Arthur): “Just let me do it already! Who mixes water and hot grease, anyway? Have you ever even cooked before?” [2]
