Kai Crestless is a fourth-year student at Xyrus Academy and a member of the Disciplinary Committee. He is later revealed to be a spy sent from Alacrya to infiltrate Xyrus Academy. He is a major supporting antagonist of Season 4 and Season 5, due to his role as an undercover spy as well as being one of the instigators in the attack on Xyrus Academy.

Appearance[]

Kai has a frail appearance with a tall and lean frame. His hair is light gray, and his eyes are narrow slits. Kai is often seen with a mocking smile. As a member of of the Disciplinary Committee Kai wears a black uniform, with long sleeve shirt and pants, sporting a dagger in his chest pocket.

Personality[]

Kai is a mysterious person. He rarely changes his expression,[2] which makes figuring out his thoughts difficult. He is very secretive, threatening Arthur when he asked about his ability.[3] Kai is also a bit of a trickster, bringing along Grawder to scare Arthur on their first meeting.[2]

Background[]

Kai is from Alacrya and is sent to Dicathen, along with Draneeve, to infiltrate Xyrus Academy. Claire notices Kai's strength and recruits him to become a member of the Disciplinary Committee. While in the Disciplinary Committee, Kai acts as a mole, informing the radical groups and Draneeve on the Disciplinary Committee's actions while feeding the rest of the Disciplinary Committee members false information. During the attack on Xyrus Academy, Kai tricks Claire into enlarging the training barrier, trapping the rest of the Disciplinary Committee members, and allowing Draneeve and the radicals to wreak havoc on school grounds.[1]

Abilities & Skills[]

As a student of Xyrus Academy and a member of the Disciplinary Committee, Kai has full authority to exert force against the student body who act out, and utilize his mana without the need to initiate a duel. Kai was considered one of the strongest students of Xyrus Academy, as he was scouted to join the Disciplinary Committee. As a mage, his overall level is never revealed as he was skilled enough to hide his full powers from his colleagues. As a spy, Kai is skillful in infiltration and intelligence gathering, having spent four years at Xyrus Academy undetected by his peers as well as Director Goodsky.

Augmenter: Kai is an Augmenter mage, therefore someone who can use magic within their bodies to enhance their attacks, but at the same time also able to shoot out magic after reaching a certain level. While it is unknown whether it is form of deviant magic, Kai is capable of shooting metal strings out with a wave of his arms. With this ability, he can form a metal fence. Arthur and Claire note that Kai does not appear to have an elemental attribute.[3]

Alacryan Runes: As Kai was a spy sent from Alacrya, it can be deduced that he was under the power of the Alacryan Runes, which increased his powers exponentially, giving him enhanced cognitive processing capabilities for higher levels of spell casting, a nearly unlimited pool of mana for him to access and utilize, and heightened reflexes along with strengthened physical prowess and dexterity. Unlike most users however, Kai has full control over his Runes, as he was able to keep his full power from being known as well as having the mental fortitude to keep his power from losing control.
