Melzri is the scythe of Etril. She and Viessa trained Nico together after he returned to Alacrya. She did not fight in the initial war against Dicathen.
She and Viessa were sent to Dicathen along with a squad of Wraiths to Vildorial to reclaim Darv and capture or kill Arthur Leywin. However despite overwhelming and almost winning against the lances, they lose the battle as Arthur, to their surprise, kills the wraiths and threatens them to leave, which they did. They were wary of him because he crippled Nico and killed Cadell, then killed the wraiths. They bowed to him before retreating, indicating they respect him despite being enemies.[1]
Melzri, along with Viessa, Mawar, Draneeve, Nico and Cecilia, travel to Nirmala where hey fight Arthur, Sylvie and Chul, believing them to have killed Sovereign Exeges. Melzri fights Sylvie, but is horrified when Viessa is killed by Arthur. The battle ends with Chul flying away with his companions,[2] and Melzri brings Viessa's body back to Taegrin Caelum.
Melzri later joins the Second Invasion of Dicathen in Vildorial. There, she is on a personal mission to capture and kill Arthur's sister, Eleanor, as revenge for Arthur killing Viessa. Her plans are foiled by Seris, who convinces her to not kill Eleanor.[3] After this, Melzri goes missing and is only briefly spotted searching the battlefield on the west coast for her retainer, Mawar.[4]Appearance[]
Melzri is described as having flawless silvery-gray skin, pure white hair plaited into a tight braid that flowed down her back, and dark lips and eyes that matched the two sets of gleaming onyx horns that erupted from her head and curled sharply back, one pair exactly beneath the other. Her eyes are dark red in color, like the color of curdled blood.
She wore white scale armor during the Victoriad, with bigger, slightly darker plates at her shoulders, neck, and hips that seemed organic, almost like bone, and smaller, arrow-shaped scales that meshed together across the remainder of her body.[5]
Personality[]
During the first siege of Vildorial, Melzri seemed to have a combative and especially moody personality; yelling and cursing seem to be a big part of her dialogue when she is upset. She easily becomes hot-headed when something interferes with her plans, menace and cruelty getting the better of her usually playful voice.[1] However, when instructed to do something by the Scythe Viessa, she quickly obeys her, showing respect. She enjoys torturing her enemies and makes them tell her how it feels.
Relationships[]
The Scythes: In general melzri appears to view all the scythes as a form of family and she cares for them greatly.
Viessa: She seems to see Viessa like an older sister, obeying and respecting her. She mourned her death greatly,[2] even lashing out at Agrona because of it, calling him a coward. She becomes so furios that Cecilia is forced to make her unconscious, since her state would otherwise only annoy Agrona.[6] Melzri traveled to Dicathen for the Second Siege of Vildorial to avenge her by killing Arthur's sister. Her relationship with Viessa turns contradictory after the latter's death, with Melzri stating that she never had any love for Viessa, and that taking "revenge" is only a duty to even out the scales.[3] This, however, greatly contradicts her earlier actions and initial reaction to Viessa's death.
Mawar: Melzri is the mentor to Mawar. Mawar is her retainer.
Nico Sever: She treats Nico as a younger brother figure and seems to have genuine care for him[5].
Abilities & Skills[]
Soulfire: She infuses one of her long, curved swords with soulfire. She can also use these flames to heal her wounds.
Void wind: She infuses one of her long, curved swords with void wind.
Flight: She can fly.
Superspeed (as most other Scythes): She outmatched Bairon's enhanced senses with her speed, seeming like a "shadowy blur". Even with Thunderclap Impulse activate, Bairon could barely follow her movements.
Quotes[]
- (To Nico) “Now is that any way to speak to the one who trained you and took care of you after we got you back from that trashy little island, little brother?”
- (To Bairon) "Done losing? You've already lost! (...) What does it feel like?" (...) Tell me, and I'll speed your demise!"[1]
- (To Cecilia) "He - he won't... he won't see me. Me. Viessa - dead - but he won't even see me!"[6]
- (To Eleanor) "You misunderstand. I have no love for Viessa, nor she for me. Your death simply balances the scales. it is a duty, not some wrath-filled pursuit of a broken heart. I am Vritra-born, a Scythe, not some angry child storming across both continets seeking revenge."[3]
