Mordain Asclepius is the prince of the Asclepius Clan and the former best friend of Kezess Indrath, before their falling out over the actions Kezess took against the Djinns that led to their extermination. Among the Asuras, few know of what actually transpired between Mordain and Kezess which caused Mordain to disappear.
It is revealed he and his clan tried to save the Djinn but were able to save only a few of them and later took to hiding deep in the Beast Glades, in the Hearth, alongside other Asura who oppose Kezess and Agrona as Mordain is an enemy to both of them.
Later on, he welcomes Aldir and Wren who both has rebelled against Kezess because of his selfishness that led to the death of the Dijnn, elves and Taci also lead the Asura astray and to oppose Agrona. Mordain and Agrona are enemies because Agrona kept one of the phoenixes, a female named Dawn, as a prisoner when Mordain wanted to make peace with him. Dawn was later executed by the Legacy. Mordain then sends Avier to fetch Arthur Leywin to bring him to the Hearth and meet with him. Afterwards, he gives Arthur the missing third keystone, allowing him to unlock another godrune. This keystone had been obtained by Chul's father years prior after he had found it in the Relictombs, but failed to understand it.
Following the conclusion of the war and the Confluence, Mordain is acknowledged by the asuran highlords and they start a path of reconciliation.[1]Appearance[]
He is a tall man with an athletically graceful physique with eyes blazing like the sun. He wears a golden robe stylized with golden feathers and flames over a cream coloured silk tunic and dark pants. He has markings like feathers burning like a coal down the sides of his face, which had the same air of eternal youth like Kezess Indrath but where Lord Indrath would only appear smug and dispassionate, Mordain's sharp lined face conveyed an undeniable sense of curisoity and wisdom.
Personality[]
He is the polar opposite of Kezess Indrath who is corrupted, power hungry, selfish and short sighted, whereas Mordain is a calm, patient, polite and wise asura. He does not look down on Lessers and he respect those who catch his interest like Arthur. Like Aldir He values intelligent life, Asuras or Lessers in general, as he attempted to save the Djinn. Unlike Kezess's brusque, dispassionate and lofty way of welcoming as when Lord Indrath met Arthur, Mordain welcomes Arthur in a very curious, kind, formal, and polite way. He is very patient as shown with Arthur who was angry with Aldir because of Elenoir's destruction by Kezess's orders, and defended Arthur from Chul who was angry with both Arthur and Mordain, Arthur because of making threats against their guest Aldir, and Mordain for not making a move against Agrona for killing Chul's mother, Dawn.
Background[]
Mordain was once the representative of the phoenixes at the council of the Great Eight, and the closest friend to Kezess Indrath. Eventually, Mordain found out abouth the drastic measures Kezess took against the Djinn, leading to their extermination. He found it repulsive which led to their falling out, though no one but he two know exactly what transpired between them.[2] He left Epheotus with most of his clan and other supporters, phoenixes and other asura, and they eventually settled in the Hearth, along with some djinn survivors, where they lived together in seclusion for many years. Sometime during this period, Chul was born and his father tried un unlocking the third keystone, but failed. Mordain's close friend and mother to Chul, Dawn, was later captured in Taegrin Caelum after Mordain had sent her on a diplomatic mission to Agrona, to which Mordain and his clan responded with an assult on the fortress, though it was unsuccesful and Dawn was never seen again until news of her death reached them.
At some point, rumors about Mordain's disappearance circulated throughout Epheotus and people began calling him the Lost Prince, believing he had left Epheotus to join Agrona Vritra.[2]
Sometime during the last couple of centuries, he met Rinia Darcassan, and took her in as a student, teaching her about her aether arts.[3]
Relationships[]
Kezess Indrath: They were best friends but later became enemies as they disagreed over the Djinn when Kezess exterimnated them which led to a fallout between them and the destruction of their friendship becoming enemies. As Mordain disappeared from Epheotus, the Asclepius Clan was removed from The Great Eight.
Aldir: It is unknown what their relationship was before, but later Mordain sheltered him when Aldir defected from Kezess's service and Mordain attempted to defend him from Arthur but Aldir stopped him.
Wren Kain: He shelters him alongside Aldir when they departed from Epheotus after Aldir's defection.
Arthur Leywin: Mordain heard about Arthur from Aldir and Wren and was quite surprised about the fact that Arthur is a reincarnate and the bond of Kezess's granddaughter, but he was not convinced that meeting Arthur would be worth the risk. However, after some talking from Aldir and Wren, he sends Avier to fetch him. When they finally meet, Mordain smiles and welcomes him in a kind way to which Arthur is grateful and proceeds asks if Mordain is planning to help them against Agrona and Kezess, to which Mordain tells him to join them and discuss the valid point. He and Arthur talk about a Djinn City, Zhoroa, which Arthur saw in his last trial in the Relictombs was burned by Kezess. When Mordain attempts to defend Aldir, Aldir stops Mordain and accepts all of Arthur's anger as it is understandable. He also defends Arthur from Chul who is angry because of making threats against Aldir as Arthur has the right to speak his mind. Later, Mordain agrees to Arthur's request by sending with him the Djinn-Phoenix hybrid Chul who wants revenge against Agrona for killing his mother Dawn, after a sparring match between them indicating their strong alliance unlike Arthur's tenuous alliance with Lord Indrath. Later, Arthur shows the egg Sylvie turned into after her sacrifice, much to Mordain's shock and Mordain explains there is an asuran legend says that true self sacrifice is rewarded with rebirth. After two months. during which Arthur was reviving Sylvie, Mordain meets Arthur again and explains that the dragons have arrived in Dicathen as a part of Arthur's and Kezess' deal but warns Arthur to be careful as Kezess is not an easy opponent. They part on good terms.
Sylvie Indrath: He learns about her from Aldir and Wren that she is bonded to Arthur Leywin. He later helps Arthur in reviving her when he shows him a portal to the relictombs and explains the egg she turned into. He meets her after Arthur revives her with help from Aldir where she thanks Mordain for helping Arthur with a bow. Despite Mordain being enemies with Agrona Vritra and Kezess Indrath, her father and grandfather, Mordain bears no hostility or emnity towards her as she is raised by Arthur. He regards her with a polite and a curious welcome that she is a part dragon and a part Basilisk raised by a human making her an alchemy of contradictions asking where her loyalty lies. She responds with a fierce determination that her loyalty is with Arthur and Dicathen in which he replies that she will always be pulled in three directions as both factions of asura will attempt to manipulate her for their own gains. Mordain demonstrates concern for her and tells Arthur to be careful from Agrona and lord Indrath not to let them use her as a weapon or a shield. He parts with her on good terms indicating their strong alliance.
Novis Avignis: The two are stated have been good friends, and he is the first of the asuran highlords to welcome him back.[1]
Tessia Eralith: Mordain and Tessia grow close and become friends after the Confluence. She supports him and calms his nerveousness during the meeting in Alacrya between the alacryans, dicathians and asuras, as he is understandably quite anxious about meeting the asuran highlords after so many years.[1] Like her great aunt before her, Tessia becomes Mordain’s student. The content of the lessons is never explained but it’s safe to assume it could be either general mana manipulation or phoenix mana related.[4]
Abilities & Skills[]
As a member of the Asuran phoenix race, he can use fire type mana arts.
Domain spell: Mordain can create a sphere wrapping everything within it in pure fire attribute mana. Within that sphere, his own mana pushes out all the atmospheric mana, amplifying his spells and control while diminishing that of his enemies.
Flight: He is capable of flying.
Quotes[]

- (To Arthur) "While the dragons may be your allies, they are very firmly my enemies, at least for as long as Kezess rules them"[6]
- (To Wraiths) "Servants of Agrona. Your hostility within my own domain will not be tolerated. This place, and everyone within it, are under my protection. You test my sworn neutrality by attacking here. Give me this member of my clan and go"[7]
- (To himself) "Soleil and Aurora were also looking at me without understanding. Young, so young, all of them, I though, saddened that those in my place no longer knew the Tears of the Mother... and yet hesitant to tell any of them the story"[7]
- (To Tessia) "The asura are no 'deities,' whatever rumors the agents of Kezess have fomented over the centuries. Ironically, though, Agrona himself is probably the closest thing to a deity this world has ever seen."[8]
