Nicolas Dreyl is a noble child of House Dreyl and a second year battle mage student at Xyrus Academy.

Appearance

Nicolas has reddish-blonde hair and green eyes. His head is slightly round and his nose is particularly large. As a student of Xyrus Academy, he wears the standard battle mage uniform.

Personality

Nicolas is an arrogant bully who is easily provoked to start a fight. He views dwarves as inferior, as seen when he insults Broznean's dwarven origin. Nicolas can be manipulative, as shown when he purposely taunts Broznean to declare a duel. Higher-level students are not allowed to start a duel with lower-level students. He also has little to no integrity when he tries to attack Broznean after the dual has ended. When faced with someone who hold more authority and status than himself, such as Tessia Eralith, Nicolas's true cowardly nature is exposed as he was forced to apologize when she called him out on his inexcusable behavior and threatened him with the consequences of his actions.

Season 4

After the orientation ceremony, Nicolas met Broznean and proceeded to insult Broznean for being a dwarf. Wanting to fight Broznean, he taunted Broznean even further until Broznean finally decided to start a duel with him. While Broznean managed to hold his own, Nicolas gained the upper hand by throwing dirt in Broznean's face, and unleashing his earth pillar to pierce him while Broznean was off guard. When the duel concluded in Nicolas's victory, the sinister noble attempted to cripple Broznean while he was down, until another student named Arthur called out the arrival of the student council president. After realizing that Arthur tricked him, Nicolas threatened Arthur for stopping him and warned Arthur not to appear in front of him again. As he began to leave, Arthur's bond Sylvie spat on his nape. Nicolas then drew his swords at Arthur preparing to attack him, when the student council president Tessia Eralith suddenly appeared behind Nicolas. Nicolas tried to explain the situation as a misunderstanding, but Tessia refused to hear his excuses, and scolded Nicolas over his inexcusable behavior and threatened him with the consequences of attacking students. Tessia promised Nicolas that his actions would be reported as the cowardly noble was forced to apologize to Arthur as he fled.

Broznean Boor

As to be expected of a noble human, Nicolas is hostile against Broznean for being a dwarf. His hostility towards Broznean was great enough that he was willing to cripple the dwarf student despite their duel being over, only stopping when he was met with the prospect of punishment from the student council.

Arthur Leywin

Nicolas is hostile against Arthur for interrupting his fight against Broznean. He is triggered when Arthur tricked him that the student council president has arrived, and immediately sees Arthur's action as a provocation for a fight, not hesitating to draw his swords at Arthur despite Arthur not initiating a sanctioned duel. His hatred for Arthur was further cemented when Tessia Eralith witnessed Nicolas's actions and embarrassed him over his public disorder.

Tessia Eralith

Tessia is the Student Council President of Xyrus Academy. As such, Nicolas is subservient to Tessia due to her authority and is forced to treat her with respect. Nicolas was also fearful of Tessia as she openly scolded and humiliated Nicolas over his disreputable behavior and threatened him over his actions holding dire consequences. As Nicolas has a low opinion of dwarfs, it can be inferred that Nicolas also has the same negative opinion of elves, and is only shown submitting to Tessia due to her status.

Abilities & Skills

Nicolas was considered a very promising student of Xyrus Academy as he was skilled enough to manifest earth magic despite only being in the red stage of his mana core. His skills however are shown to be rather subpar as he was only shown fighting opponents he thought weaker than himself. Nicolas is not above using underhanded tactics as he was shown to throw dirt in his opponent's eyes to catch him off guard.

Augmenter: Nicolas is an augmenter mage, someone who can use magic within their bodies to enhance their attacks but is also able to shoot out magic after reaching a certain level. Nicolas was said to be an exceptional mage during his freshman year, however as he was only at the Dark-Red stage of his mana core, it can be inferred that he has not improved in his time since attending.

Earth-Elemental: As a Dark-Red core mage, Nicolas has a single specialization in the attribute of Earth. Nicolas is shown to rely on quick offensive spells such as piercing attacks as well as sneak attacks.

• Earth Blades (unnamed): Nicolas stabs his swords to the ground and pulls them from the earth, manifesting two thinly sharp stalactites from beneath to attack his opponent.
  • To manifest the spell, Nicolas chants: "Gather around and be my arms and feet..."
• Earth Pillar: Nicolas stomps the ground with his leading foot and erupts a large column of earth to pierce his opponent.

Swordsmanship: Nicolas utilizes his dual sabers when in combat. Nicolas is shown to be a capable swordsman as he was shown to incorporate his swords into augmenting his earth magic.

• (To Broznean) I don't see how a short-ass dwarf like you can even hope to become a real augmenter. Why don't you stick to forging weapons for real warriors like me?

Notes & Trivia

• Nicolas attempting to break Broznean's arm is a comic-only scene. In the novel, Nicolas imbues mana on his dual swords to strike Broznean after the duel has ended.
• The nickname, Nick, is only mentioned in the novel by Arthur's inner dialogue.
