Oliver Hemmbet was an A-Rank adventurer and an Emitter deviant who specialized in healing. Oliver acted as the healer of the Dire Tombs Exploration Party, until his overinflated sense of pride cost him his life.

Appearance

Oliver has a less than attractive, lanky appearance with his crooked nose, beady eyes, and parted brown hair. He looks to be into his thirties. He wears a gray robe and carries a long wooden staff.

Personality

Oliver is an arrogant person, often wearing a smug look on his face, and reckless when trying to show off. He does not think things through and ignores other's warnings. Oliver also appears captivated by Samantha's beauty. He tries to impress Samantha by acting boldly in taking the lead midway through the Dire Tombs raid.

Season 3

Oliver is recruited into the Dire Tombs Exploration Party as the groups healer along with A-Rank conjurer’s Elijah Knight, Lucas Wykes, Samantha Tempest; A-Rank augmenters Reginald Bastion, Kriol Masser, and Note; and AA-Rank augmenter’s Jasmine Flamesworth and Brald Landon, the latter being the group’s leader. Oliver cared little for the group, but was immediately infatuated by Samantha Tempest, doing all that he could to gain her attention, even going as far as to carry only her belongings in his storage ring.

As the group ventures deep into the Dire Tombs, Oliver did very little to keep his guard up and kept getting distracted by his surroundings. When the group were ambushed by the Batrunners, Jasmine ordered Oliver to duck while she defended him. While the group defended against the horde of mana beasts, Oliver was composed enough to provide support by keeping everyone at full health.

While making their way to the third level and into a cavern of geysers, they are ambushed by the sudden appearance of a giant Cavern Worm beast. Kriol quickly put up a barrier between themselves and the monster as Brald reveals that the monster was not present the last time he explored this level, surprising Kriol. The worm began to act strangely as it made tunnels around the party before retreating into the ground.

After Kriol put down his water barrier, Oliver expressed his desire to continue the exploration and asked Samatha to follow along behind him in an effort to impress her. Brald warned Oliver not to continue as they needed to asses the situation. Brald’s warnings only fall on deaf ears as Oliver tried to take charge and walked away from the group. As Brald attempted to pull Oliver back, Note noticed the ground was about to erupt and pulled Brald back to safety as he ordered Lucas to cast heatwave barrier around everyone. Before Note could warn Oliver to cast a barrier for himself, the entire cavern was engulfed in a sea of fire, bursting from the geysers. As the flames and steam settled, the group could only look in horror at Oliver’s skeletal remains.

Noticing his mana crystal was still salvageable, Note picked it from Oliver’s corpse and handed it to Samantha to use it as it was much stronger than the crystal on her wand. A sad Samantha reluctantly took the crystal as the group continued forward.

Relationships

Samantha Tempest: While Oliver did not care much for his party members, the one person who ever caught his eyes was Samantha, a young and beautiful girl, with whom he was infatuated with to the point that he desperately tried to gain her attention, going as far as to carry her belongings for her or help her whenever she was slightly fatigued. While Samantha was not interested in Oliver, she did not decline his willingness to please her. After the group was ambushed by the Cavern Worm, Oliver took the opportunity to take charge and escape by taking Samantha with him, despite her protests. When he needlessly died as a result of his obsession, Samantha was given his mana crystal. Samantha seemed reluctant to take his crystal, possibly out of guilt for his death.

Abilities & Skills

Conjurer: Oliver is a conjurer mage, someone who supplements their own mana core with mana from the outside world, to exert mana into their surroundings in the form of spells. As an A-Rank Emitter, Oliver is capable of handling higher ranked missions as a support for his party, though he is sloven and gullible. As a conjurer, Oliver wields a staff that uses a high caliber mana crystal to channel his healing spells.

Emitter: Oliver is a healer, someone whose magic is not categorized within the four elements or their higher forms. What Oliver lacks in combat, he makes up for in healing and protection. As a dark yellow core mage, his healing skills were strong enough to increase the endurance and power of 7 mages.

• Resilience Augmentation: Oliver chants his spell to increase his allies resistance to enemy attacks as well as keep their mana at full power.
  • To conjure the spell, Oliver chants: "Strengthen my allies, thicken their skins..."
• Barrier: Oliver was mentioned to have the ability to cast barrier spells to shield him from high level dangers. It is likely that had he not been distracted by his obsession with boasting himself, he would have been able to cast a barrier to protect himself from the geysers.
