The Relictombs is an ancient dungeon that was created by the Djinn. This place is the work of hundreds of ancient mages adept in wielding aether of different edicts. Time, space, and life all work differently here and more of it is from the natural course of time rather than their own design. While their civilization had been ransacked and burned, they had created an ecosystem separate from that of the rest of this world, one that cannot be touched by asuras.[1]
The Indrath Clan along with the rest of the asuras may have managed to succeed in their genocide, but not in their pursuit of the Djinn‘s knowledge, because of this place that the Djinn have built to keep the asuras away.[1]
The only known entrance to the Relictombs is located in the continent of Alacrya.
Background[]
Asuras aren't able to enter the Relictombs. The Relictombs were constructed by the Djinn using the aether of space, Spatium. [1]
Agrona has been sending Alacryans into the Relictombs, where they were able to bring relics of the past to the Vritra.[2]
It is later explained, by the fourth djinn remnant, that the relictombs is an encyclopedia of all the knowledge between aether and mana, gathered by the djinn. Each zone carries an insight into aether that one only has to move through to achieve insight. Though was stated to be an imperfect solution, it was stated to be the only way to be taught aether, due to its nature being shrouded in mystery.
Ascension and Ascenders[]
Ascenders[]
Only the strongest mages given the title of ‘ascender’ by your domain’s Scythe are allowed to explore the Relictombs. In turn, ascenders are able to gain treasures that would never be found on the surface, called accolades. Furthermore, if a relic of the ancient mages is found and given to your Scythe, it is said that the ascender will be taken to the mighty sovereigns themselves and be bestowed a powerful regalia.[3]
Solo Ascenders[]
Solo Ascenders are rare since it is difficult to survive in the Relictombs on your own. Arthur claims to be an Solo Ascender during his first Ascent. [4]
Wogart[]
"Wogart" is a derrogatory term designating new and inexperienced ascenders.[5]
"You’ll probably run into them fairly often, but they’re these doe-eyed beasts that are at the bottom of the food chain. Basically, it’s slang for an inexperienced ascender" - (Quinten to Grey)
Descencion[]
Within the Relictombs are multiple exits.[6]
After exiting the Relictombs, every ascender has to prove his identity to the Dominion’s official responsible for the Descension chamber. [7]
Zones[]
The number and difficulties of zones varies depending on the ascender. The Relictombs adjust itself to the abilities of the ascenders within a determined zone. [3]
The only way for a party of ascenders to travel through the same zones together are by the use of Simulets. Each team member holds a synched simulet, which ensures that they will all travel to the same zone when crossing a portal. [3] Simulets were made using the insights from a relic.[2]
Sanctuary rooms[]
Sanctuary rooms are large circular halls, with smooth white pillars holding up the ceiling. A warm ethereal light glows brightly from sconces along the walls, spaced out evenly every few feet, and runes etched in between each sconce.[8] A pool of water is located on its center and dried blood usually can be seen on the floor.[8][9] Metal doors etched with runes along the frame are portals that are connected to other zones.[9]
These rooms are a resting place for anyone exploring the Relictombs.
Convergence Zones[]
Convergence zones are zones where different groups of Ascender gather. [10]
Blood Relic Zone[]
A zone in the Relictombs that Arthur and Caera encountered after following the map that Sylvia put into Arthur’s mind.[11] Inside this zone is a portal that leads to the Second Ruin.
The Four Ancient Ruins[]
Agrona found out that there are four ruins in different specific zones built by the ancient mages that he nor any other asurans are able to cross into. Sylvia was able to imprint and pass on the locations of these four major ruins to Arthur that Agrona had been breeding and sending lessers into in hopes to learn more about what is down there.[12]
Sylvia said that those Four Ruins protected from asuras and made by the ancient mages held the key to wielding Fate.[13]
After his near-death experience during his fight against Cadell and Nico, he ended up in the First Ruin inside the Relictombs. Inside the First Ruin, he managed to create his Aether Core, get the Destruction Godrune, the Godstep Godrune and an Extra-Dimensional Storage Rune. He also got a keystone, which holds another Godrune. On a side note, he also learned most of his new abilities here like Aether Consumption, Regeneration, Aether Body Enhancement, Aether Sense, Asura's Eye, Aether Augmentation, mastered Burst Step (Technique), Gauntlet Form, Aetheric Intent and Aether Cannon.
During his second ascent into the Relictombs, he managed to gain the insight necessary to unlock the Aroa's Requiem Godrune that was inside the keystone. He also kinda learned how to create the Aether Claw during this time, or more precisely, during his imprisonment in the Named Blood Grambehl‘s mansion.
When Arthur goes to the Blood Relic Zone, he gains the Armour Relic. At the end of this zone was a portal that lead to the Second Ruin. During his visit to the Second Ruin, he learns how to create an perfect Aether Sword. Moreover, he got another keystone, which holds another Godrune. With Ellie’s help, he subsequently manages to gain the insight necessary to unlock the Realmheart Godrune that was inside the keystone.[14] During his fight with the Wraiths, he eventually masters the underlying power of the Realmheart Godrune.
