Samantha Tempest is an A-Rank adventurer with a single specialization in water magic and a surviving member of the Dire Tombs Exploration Party. She served as a support mage who specialized in offensive and defensive spells.

Appearance[]

Samantha looks to be around her mid-twenties and is an attractive woman. She has wavy blond hair that flows down her shoulders and light blue eyes that looks almost grey. Her eyes are big and round, making her look cuter, and her short height of about 1.5 meters compliments that well.[1] Her hips sway as she walks, attracting the men around her.

Personality[]

Samantha has a bubbly personality as well as flirty, giving a wink to Arthur during her introduction to the Dire Tombs' party.[1] She is aware of her attractiveness and uses it to her advantage, hinting a slight vain side to herself. While she is by no means a genius, Samantha is shown to think outside the box as she used everyday spells to get her out of life threatening situations. While she is shown to use other’s she is not as selfish as she appears as she was mortified at the sight of her comrades deaths and guilty over not being as well prepared as others. She also knows when to give gratitude as she was thankful of Arthur saving her life and even refused to accept the Elderwood Guardian core they nearly died to gain, believing he deserved it.

Season 3[]

Samantha is recruited into the Dire Tombs Exploration Party as a support mage along with A-Rank conjurer’s Elijah Knight, Lucas Wykes, Oliver Hemmbet; A-Rank augmenters Reginald Bastion, Kriol Masser, and Note; and AA-Rank augmenter’s Jasmine Flamesworth and Brald Landon, the latter being the group’s leader. Samantha quickly caught the attention of the party’s healer Oliver who wasted no time in trying to please her by carrying her stuff. While she had no issues with taking advantage of Oliver’s infatuation she was especially excited to meet the masked swordsman Note.

As the party entered the first level of the dungeon, the group noticed the lack of mana beasts until Reginald noticed debris falling from the ceiling, alerting Brald that they were under attack by Batrunners. As the group continued to move, Brald rediscovered the secret entrance he had marked. As everyone climbed to the top Brald gave one more warning to the group to stay on guard as he still has no idea what other dangers await them.

While navigating the second level, Samatha was distracted by the sudden rise in temperature when Note saved her from what seemed to be a trap. Reginald, surprised by the sudden attack, questioned why Brald did not warn them of traps in the secret entrance, only for Brald to reveal that the secret entrance did not contain traps the last time he entered. Note deduced that it was the work of a mana beast. With the group now on high alert they continued to march forward while enduring the rising heat from the next level. Finally arriving at the exit, Brald stopped the party from moving forward as he could sense there was an ominous pressure coming from the cavern ahead.

While making their way through the cavern of geysers, they are ambushed by the sudden appearance of a giant Cavern Worm beast. Kriol quickly put up a barrier between themselves and the monster as Brald reveals that the monster was not present the last time he explored the level. The worm began to act strangely as it made tunnels around the party before retreating into the ground. After Kriol put down his water barrier, Oliver expressed his desire to continue the exploration and asked Samatha to follow along behind him in an effort to impress her. Samantha expressed her concern over the situation and advised Oliver not to wander off. Brald warned Oliver not to continue as they needed to asses the situation. Brald’s warnings only fall on deaf ears as Oliver tried to take charge and walked away from the group. As Brald attempted to pull Oliver back, Note noticed the ground was about to erupt and pulled Brald back to safety as he ordered Lucas to cast heatwave barrier around everyone. Before note could warn Oliver to cast a barrier for himself, the entire cavern was engulfed in a sea of fire, bursting from the geysers. Samantha casted a warrior barrier to counter the flames in an effort to douse the steam and clear their vision. As the flames and steam settled the group could only look on in horror at Oliver’s skeletal remains, Samantha particularly screamed in terror.

As the group regain their composure, Note noticed Oliver’s mana crystal was still salvageable. Note picked it from Oliver’s corpse and handed it to Samantha to use as it was much stronger for her wand. Samantha reluctantly accepts the crystal. Note then suggests they should move out which Brald agrees to and orders everyone to evacuate before the cavern ruptures again. While they rush towards the exit they are again attacked by the Cavern Worm. Kriol shields the group from the Worms attacks as Brald commanded Elijah and Samantha to stun the worm while it was distracted. Samantha and Elijah then try to restrain the worm using Samantha’s Siren’s Howl while Elijah restrained it with Stone Serpent’s Grasp. While the duo are able to push back the worm, Reginald, Jasmine and Brald attacked the worm head on with Reginald attempting to attack the worm in its blind spots while Brald and Jasmine distracted the beast.

While the three hold off the worm Note took the opportunity to slice at the worm, creating an opening for Jasmine to injure the worm. The worm suddenly retreated into the ground. Believing the situation to be dealt with Brald ordered everyone to evacuate the cavern. Unfortunately the group realized too late that the worm was in fact distracting them before the next eruption. As everyone quickly attempted to shield themselves, Samantha panicked and was unable to quickly form a barrier in time. In the heat of the moment Brald shielded her from the eruption at the sacrifice of his right arm.

Narrowly escaping the cavern, the party took the time to rest while Brald had his arm cauterized by Note. Samantha provided assistance by adding water magic to his wound to help ease the pain. Not wanting to give up after coming so far, Brald insisted on continuing the exploration as his final dungeon raid, while appointing Note as the new party leader as he was the most level headed and capable of leading the group. With everyone’s agreement (san Lucas) Note accepted the role and continued the exploration.

Making their way towards the end of the tunnel, the party find themselves at another roadblock, as the tunnel was blocked off by a metal wall. Reginald and Jasmine together bypass the wall with their combined power where the group find themselves in a forest surrounded in mist. While the group tried to assess the area Kriol dropped his shield and ran into the mist whilst screaming for his deceased fiancé. Jasmine deduces that the mist in the area is inducing hallucinations, which Brald and Reginald confirm as they witnessed Clara’s death. While Samantha put up a water barrier, Lucas once again lashed out at Brald and Reginald for the party’s misfortunes. Brald however does not argue with Lucas.

In order to clear a path to find Kriol, Samantha lowered her barrier so that Jasmine could perform Banshee’s Howl to clear away the mist. While they were successful at dispersing the mist, the party was surprised at the sudden appearance of so many vines. While Brald, Jasmine, and Note hacked away at the vines to clear a path Samantha used Aqua Siphon to drain the vines of their water though this caused her to use a lot of mana. As the vines continued to grow back rapidly Samantha was struck with terror at the sight of of the perpetrator of the vines; The Elderwood Guardian.

While Reginald and Elijah tried to hold off the monster, Note tried to help the party escape, carrying Samantha on his back after she fell trying to avoid the monster’s attack. While Reginald was captured by the Guardian Note ordered Lucas to aid Reginald, only for Lucas to attack Note pointblank with Samantha getting burnt in the crossfire, breaking her legs. Believing they were all goners, Lucas attempted to sacrifice his teammates while he escaped alone.

Despite the actions of Lucas, Samantha miraculously survived the encounter with the S-Class mana beast thanks to Note using his true power to kill the Elderwood Guardian. While the dungeon caved in Samantha was shielded by Elijah who conjured a metal shelter around her, though she was not found until the next day unconscious by Note, Elijah, and Jasmine. As the four make their way out of the Dire Tombs Samantha regained consciousness, remarking that Note looked better without his mask.

Samantha then revealed that she managed to salvage both Note’s mask as well as the Elderwood guardian Core before the cave in. Despite Note’s insistence that they sell the beast core evenly, everyone believed Note deserved the core as he was the one who killed the monster. Samantha especially believed Note deserved it for saving her life and was forever in his debt for it. After finally escaping the Dire Tombs, Jasmine and Elijah rushed back to the Adventurer’s Guild hall to inform them of what transpired. Samantha was escorted by a recovery team and was able to receive treatment for her injured and broken legs while giving her statement to the Guild.

Relationships[]

Oliver Hemmbet: Samantha was the object of affection for Oliver as he was desperate to gain her attention, going as far as to carry her belongings for her or help her whenever she was slightly fatigued. While Samantha was not interested in Oliver she did not decline his willingness to please her. After the group was ambushed by the Cavern Worm Oliver took the opportunity to take charge and escape by taking Samantha with him, despite her protests. When he needlessly died as a result of his obsession, Samantha was given his mana crystal. Samantha seemed reluctant to take his crystal possibly out of guilt for his death.

Arthur/Note: Samantha was eager to work alongside Note as he was famous among the adventurer’s for his incredible power and swordsmanship. After saving her life from the Elderwood Guardian, Samantha was grateful for Arthur’s actions and refused to accept the mana beast’s Core as her way of saying thanks to Arthur. After seeing his face for the first time, Samantha remarks that he much more good looking without his mask, though she went ahead and salvaged it to help Arthur protect his identity. While Arthur wanted to visit Samantha in the infirmary he believed it was best he didn’t visit her so as to protect her from the Wykes Family.

Abilities & Skills[]

Samantha is a conjurer mage, someone who supplements their own mana core with mana from the outside world, to exert mana into their surroundings in the form of spells. Samantha is shown to be both adept at offensive and defensive forms of combat, though she is shown to use excess amounts of mana when doing so (though this may have to do with acquiring Oliver’s mana crystal to strengthen her spells) As an A-Rank adventurer Samantha is seemingly capable of soloing dungeons, though her capabilities and mental fortitude are questionable as she was shown to not be as adept at handling her surroundings as well as other adventurers.

Water Elemental: As a water Elemental and a dark yellow core mage, Samantha has a single specialization in water. She is shown to be adept at both offensive and defensive spells when providing support. After acquiring Oliver’s mana crystal, Samantha’s spells increased in power.

  • Water Barrier: Samantha creates a barrier of water to shield her from high levels of danger such as extreme levels of heat or mana beasts.
  • Siren’s Howl: A large pillar of water that can suppress larger enemies. Samantha was shown to be strong enough to push back a giant cavern worm with this spell.
  • Aqua Siphon: Samantha absorbs the surrounding water in her area. While the spell is mostly used for utility purposes, Samantha was shown to be quick witted to use it to drain the attacking vines of their water to kill them though it left her fatigued.

Quotes[]

  • (To Arthur) "Thanks to you, I'm alive. I think it's more than fair that the one who single-handedly killed it deserves the reward."[2]
