The Scythes are a group of the strongest mages in Alacrya. They each serve in a specific dominion but they all answer directly to Agrona Vritra. All the scythes are awakened Vritra-blooded humans and are as such powerful and have the ability to use decay-type mana arts. There were originally four schythes; Seris, Dragoth, Viessa and Melzri, but Agrona's right-hand man, Cadell, was added to the lineup some fifteen years ago when the war preperations in Alacrya were amped up. Nico is the newest addition, having been made a scythe when he was brought back to Alacrya from Dicathen by Draneeve. Of all the scythes, Nico is the only one without a retainer.

The scythes are powerful, and able to take down a retainer-ranked mage in a matter of second, as seen with Seris and Uto. Each scythe is shown to have a different political impact, and Seris goes as far as to orchestrate a rebellion against Agrona, which had a tremendous impact on the political situation in Alacrya and greatly strained the trust between all alacryans.

Melzri is known to have been brought up and trained by Agrona personally, having once been a favourite project of his, but is replaced by Cecilia whom he takes a greater intrest in.

Seris lost her position as scythe once she began her rebellion against Agrona.
