Sebastian was formerly the Glayder's royal guard before he was stripped of his position after attempting to kill Arthur Leywin to possess his bond. Following his fall from grace he became the leader of slave traders in Ashber Town. He is the primary antagonist of Season 2 due to conspiring to covet Sylvie and willingness to kill the child Arthur to do so.
Appearance[]
Sebastian appears with gray hair, bony jawline, hollow cheeks, and beady eyes. As a royal court mage, he wears a maroon, hooded robe, and carries a metal staff. After the incident at the Helstea's auction, Sebastian uses a wooden stick to keep minimal weight on his crippled leg. As the leader of the slave traders, he wears formal clothing consisting of a doublet and a hose.
Personality[]
Sebastian is arrogant, greedy, and shameless, willing to do anything to get what he wants. He has a condescending attitude towards the people of lower status. Sebastian feels frustrated when Arthur has, to what he believes is, at least an A-class bond. Sebastian has a childlike desire to have Sylvie, believing he deserves the mana beast more than Arthur, going as far as to use the king to coerce Arthur in giving up Sylvie. Sebastian also has little regard for the life of others as it can be seen by how he treats his slaves.
Background[]
Sebastian was a descendant of a long line of elite mages before becoming the royal guard of the Royal family of Sapin. Despite his lineage, he had not formed a contract with a mana beast before, either deeming them too weak to be his bond or nor any mana beast desiring an equals contract with him.
Season 2[]
Sebastian was shown in Xyrus City where came across the Leywin family, noticing the small mana beast accompanied with them. Realizing it was a rare and powerful mana beast, Sebastian has his underlings stalk and observe the family so that he could take the mana beast for himself. Sebastian learned from his underlings that the mana beast would be with the family during the Helstea Auction House Anniversary. Seeing an oppurtunity, Sebastian accompanies the Glayder Family to the Helstea's auction house event, where he meets Arthur, the bond of the mana beast he was interested in. When Arthur revealed he was in an equals contract with his bond Sylvie, he demanded to take a closer look at the boy's bond. Blaine immediately stopped his royal mage from approaching the boy and reminded him that he was on duty. Sebastian bowed his head apologizing to his King as the auction commenced. Sebastian and Arthur exchanged a look of unpleasentry towards each other. While the auction was well underway, Sebastian cornered Sylvie at the bar where he attempted to take her before Arthur arrived and took Sylvie back. Sebastian insults Arthur, claiming that a countryside commoner like him has no right to such a rare bond, taunting the boy over his intentions to claim the mana beast. Blinded by rage, Arthur released an intense aura that emitted a palpable bloodlust, which overwhelmed most people in the building. Sebastian was left cowering in fear as he tripped over himself until Arthur released his aura. While everyone was tense from the previous situation, someone reported that an intruder has been apprehended by the head of security Reynolds Leywin. As everyone assumed that the intruder was the perpetrator, who caused the intense aura, everyone relaxed upon finding out that he was arrested. While the royal knights mocked Sebastian for his incompetence, Sebastian shouted at them that he was only caught off guard. Sebastian gave one last look of anger towards Arthur before returning to his position. When the Auctioneer brought out the final item for the event, an infant World Lion, Sebastian paid it no attention as kept his eyes solely on Sylvie.
With the auction concluded, King Blaine was eager to receive his items and so joined Vincent and everyone present in moving to the holding room to collect his prizes. As they made their way there, Sebastian asked his majesty if he could have the boy Arthur’s bond, to which Blaine promised to ask before they left, with Sebastian looking at Arthur smuggly. Arriving in the holding area, Blaine conversed with Arthur as to whether he’d like to join his son in a sparring match. Sebastian advised against this, as he believed dueling with a commoner would only infect Prince Curtis with bad habits. They are then greeted by Arthur’s father Reynolds who pays his respect to Blaine. Blaine thanked Reynolds for his services and commended him for his strength. Blaine, however, then asked if he'd be willing to give his son's bond to his royal mage, in return Blaine would compensate the Leywin family and even gift Arthur a sword from the royal armory. When the King turned his attention to Arthur. When asked directly if Arthur would give up his bond, Arthur politely rejects his majesty’s offer as he cared too much for Sylvie to give her away. Surprised by the boy’s rejection, Blaine then offered to trade the small mana beast for the infant World Lion he just purchased, upsetting Curtis. Arthur again declines Blaine’s offer, though in a much more serious tone. Irked by the boys rejection, Blaine then asked Arthur one last time if he will willingly hand over Sylvie. To make his point clear, Arthur then asked Blaine if he’d be willing to sell his own children. Seeing this as an insult to the royal family, Sebastian orders one of the knights to attack Arthur. In a split second, Arthur manages to dodge and defend himself against the knight as well as knock him out in one punch.
Sebastian then tries to attack Arthur himself but to his surprise his spell would not work as Arthur activated his Static Void to stop time. Though Sebastian believed Arthur was incapable of defeating him, Arthur had already broken one of his legs before he realized it. Sebastian fell to the ground screaming in pain, questioning why everyone was just standing around. Arthur assured Sebastian that no one could hear them while in his Void. Sebastian tried to claim that Arthur would never get away with attacking the royal conjurer to the King, but Arthur imposed Sebastian with his overwhelming power to know his place. After Arthur deactivated his Static Void, he immediately fell to the ground unconscious. Sebastian was left in a catatonic state as he mindlessly begged for help. Sebastian was quickly taken away to be medically treated. When he finally recovered, he tried to claim that Arthur was responsible for his injuries but King Blaine believed he was lying, and that the ensuing chaos was a result of Sebastian's spell being interfered by the lingering mana of the knight who attacked Arthur ricocheted, thus causing Sebastian's spell to backfire on himself. As punishment for his disobedience and disgrace, relieved Sebastian of his position as a royal guard and banished him from the capital.
Relationships[]
Blaine Glayder: Sebastian was the former Royal Guard of the Glayder family. Blaine appreciated the years of service Sebastian provided and felt compelled to reward him whenever the opportunity presented itself. Despite his respect for Sebastian, Blaine was never pleased with his entitled and disrespectful behavior, never hesitating to reprimand the mage whenever he went too far. While Sebastian seemingly respected the King of Sapin, he was willing to defy his majesty if it meant he could satisfy his selfish desires. When Sebastian expressed his desire to have Arthur Leywin’s bond. Blaine asked Arthur if he was willing to give his bond over to Sebastian. When Arthur refused, Sebastian tried to take it forcefully by attacking Arthur. This resulted in Sebastian not only losing his position as a royal mage but his banishment from the capital.
Arthur Leywin: Arthur is a boy who bonded with a powerful mana beast that Sebastian desired. As a noblemen, Sebastian was raised to believe he was superior to commoners, and Arthur Leywin was no exception. His disdain for the child was even more noted when Arthur possessed a bond that has the potential to reach beyond A-Class, which he believed Arthur did not deserve. The more Arthur defied him the greater his hatred for the child grew until Arthur retaliated against the selfish mage when he tried to take Sylvie by force. Sebastian was left traumatized by his encounter with Arthur.
Abilities & Skills[]
Sebastian was a member of the royal court and from a family of nobility. His skills and mana manipulation were considered strong enough to appoint him as the person guard of King Blaine Glayder. Because of his status, Sebastian has command over the royal knights, ordering them to attack a child without hesitation. While the full extent of his powers are not shown, Sebastian is said to have mediocre abilities for a conjurer. His over confidence and underestimation of his opponents have cost him his dignity and battles more times than they should. As a Conjurer, Sebastian weilds a metal staff with a high caliber mana crystal to channel both fire and wind spells.
Conjurer: Sebastian is a Conjurer mage, someone who supplements their own mana core with mana from the outside world, to exert mana into their surroundings in the form of spells. While his full capabilities were never displayed, Sebastian was considered powerful due to possessing dual affinities in mana.
Dual-Elemental: As a dual-elementalist and a dark orange core mage, Sebastian has a specialization in both fire and wind magic. Sebastian attempted to use his magic on Arthur to kill him but his spell was cancelled out by Arthur's Static Void.
