Season 5[]
Wren Kain IV was assigned to train Arthur for the upcoming war against Alacrya, as well as forge Arthur a weapon based on his fighting style. Arriving at their training area, a large crater at the top of the mountains, Wren was less than impressed by the boy's appearance as he leapt from the top of the cliff and into the cavern where Arthur, along with Windsom, was waiting. Wren immediately forged a Golem to intimidate Arthur, but this did not even faze the boy. The Golem crumbled to dust as Wren emerged from the rubble, disappointed by Arthur's lackluster reaction. Because Arthur arrived late, Wren questioned how severe he should punish Arthur, be it a severed body part or solitary confinement, but Windsom insisted that such actions were unnecessary among human culture.
Wren immediately put Arthur to work by making him strip to study his body while Arthur showcased his magic affinities as well as his fighting style. Wren could not help but notice the dragon feather Arthur wore around his arm, questioning how he came to posses such a rare crafting material as dragon's never share their feathers. Continuing with Wren's assessment, Wren manifested an armada of Golems to test Arthur's combat ability. Once Arthur had finished defeating the army of Golems, it was time for Arthur to showcase his swordsmanship. To Wren's surprise and amusement, Arthur pulled out his sword Dawn's Ballad. Wren even questioned Windsom if Arthur possessing Dawn's Ballad was the reason for Wren training the boy. To Arthur's surprise Wren was able to unsheathe the sword, revealing he was the one who made the sword. Wren however considered the blade a failure compared to his other weaponry he has made and so tossed the sword into the Beast Glades of Dicathen during one of his trips gathering minerals.
For the foreseeable future, Wren took possession of Dawn's Ballad while Arthur continued to train with a practice sword Wren forged. Wren also took possession of the dragon feather Arthur wore. Understanding Arthur needed rest, Wren told Arthur to take the time to recuperate while Wren and Windsom left to attend other matters, leaving Arthur in the barren crater, cold and naked. Later that night, Wren surprise attacked Arthur while he was sleeping, claiming that Arthur won't have the luxury of sleep while on the battlefield before forcing Arthur to once again strip before he continued fighting. As Arthur tore threw the army of Golems, Wren continued to study Arthur's fighting pattern, as well as give him Golem allies to assist him in battle. Once Arthur defeated the Golems, Wren notes that Arthur let too many of his allies die in the battle, but Arthur claims that he does not feel any empathy for them because they were only practice Golems and not real allies.
The next day, Arthur was put through another test when Wren conjured two Golems that resembled a Basilisk holding Arthur's friend Tessia hostage. Arthur immediately unleashed his static void and charged at the Basilisk, severing his arm and seemingly saving Tess. The Basilisk continued to set its sights on Tessia however, forcing Arthur to prioritize saving her. Realizing this was the work of Wren, Arthur demanded the Asura to cease his mind games. Wren emerged from the Basilisk Golem, as it and the Tessia Golem crumbled to dust, claiming his actions were for Arthur's benefit, as Arthur exerted too much energy trying to save his friend. Arthur tried to defend his actions, claiming there were people in his life who mattered more to him than himself, but this did not change Wren's observation. Wren then bestowed Arthur a mineral called Acclorite that Wren was able to refine using the feather of Slyvia and a scale from Sylvie. While it would normally take Wren years to properly forge a sword for Arthur, they do not have that luxury due to Arthur's circumstances, and so to speed up the process, Wren embedded the mineral into Arthur's hand. Wren warns Arthur that every action Arthur makes will factor into how the acclorite will manifest, and that even Wren is not sure what the end result will be.
Against the wishes of Windsom and Kezess Indrath, Wren informs Arthur that the war had already begun. Arthur was left shocked by this revelation as he was told the war was still two years away. Arthur turned to leave, proclaiming he would be returning to Dicathen, but was stopped by Wren who proclaimed that Arthur was still nowhere near ready to fight against the Retainers, let alone a Scythe. Wren declared that he will have Arthur ready in one year to which Arthur reluctantly accepts.
